Susan Boyle has revealed that she suffered a stroke but is now recovering, while addressing a cruel assumption some people have made about her since the health scare. The 65-year-old singer, who shot to fame on Britain's Got Talent in 2009, opened up in an interview with STV's What's on Scotland.
Stroke and Recovery
Speaking to presenters Laura Boyd and Emma Cameron, Boyle said: "I wasn't too well, I had a stroke for a wee while there. I've got over most of it." However, she noted that some people have misinterpreted her condition, adding: "Some people say I sound as if I'm drunk but I'm not. I'm back now. They couldn't shut me up for long enough."
Return to the Spotlight
Despite her recent health issues, the West Lothian star said she is feeling better than ever, with a glamorous blonde bob makeover and recent collaborations with Irn-Bru and Cornetto. "I've had a great summer. I'm very humbled by the public. They're very friendly, very accepting. I'm having the best time of my life. I'm really lapping it up. I'm like a cat with the cream," she said.
Boyle also hosted a World Cup party for Scotland's match against Morocco and has been vocal in her support for the team on Instagram. She met some players during filming for an Irn-Bru World Cup campaign, which features her singing the brand's 1980s jingle 'Made in Scotland from Girders'. In one scene, she breakdances alongside John McGinn atop the Forth Bridge, a skill she practiced at her local youth hall.
American Fans and New Music
Discussing her loyal American fanbase, Boyle said: "They've been very loyal. They've given me the encouragement to go on and even when things have been really bad, they've been writing to me. So the support has been quite moving." She cheekily added that some letters come from male admirers: "They like to think I fancy them."
Looking ahead, Boyle teased new music: "I've been in the recording studio doing a couple of things for Diane Warren. She's a composer and I hope to go to LA some time to see her. It's in the pipeline but I'll take my time."
