Radio presenter Scott Mills has been dismissed by the BBC following an allegation regarding his personal conduct. The 53-year-old was taken off air last Tuesday while the BBC reviewed the information, and his contract was subsequently terminated at the weekend. The BBC stated: 'While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.'
Mills joined BBC Radio 1 in 1998 as an early breakfast show presenter and moved to Radio 2 in October 2022. Last year, he succeeded Zoe Ball on the popular breakfast show. His annual salary for that role was £450,000, significantly less than Ball's £950,000. Sources indicated that Mills did not ask for a pay rise, with one insider saying: 'Scott, though, was genuinely thrilled to get the gig. He didn't even ask about a pay rise.'
Mills married his husband, Sam Vaughan, in June 2024 during an intimate Spanish ceremony attended by celebrities including Rylan, Pixie Lott, Calvin Harris, and Joel Corry. Vaughan, who is 16 years Mills' junior, was 35 at the time of the wedding. The couple met in the summer of 2016 when Mills was DJing at an event.
In 2023, Mills told The Times that Vaughan initially had reservations about a long-term commitment. 'We began texting, then did the whole Gavin & Stacey thing, with me travelling to Wales or him to London. The more time we spent together, the more I could see we were right for each other. I just needed him to see that too,' Mills said. After Vaughan said he was 'not ready', Mills was devastated and they did not speak for six months. However, they moved in together three months before the first lockdown, and Mills proposed two years later.
The couple featured on Celebrity Race Across the World in 2024, where Mills was awkwardly mistaken for Vaughan's father.
