Matt Tebbutt, host of BBC's Saturday Kitchen, issued an apology during the live broadcast on July 18, 2026, after guest Jordan North appeared to mouth an expletive. The incident occurred when viewers voted for William Hanson's food heaven over North's choice, prompting an apparent reaction from the radio presenter.
Apology issued mid-show
Tebbutt, 52, temporarily stopped cooking to address the moment, saying: "Now, we are just going to get on with this. In the meantime, can I just apologise, because when we revealed that vote, Jordan might have mouthed a naughty word." North, co-host of the podcast Help I Sexted My Boss, appeared unaware, with drinks expert Helen McGinn adding: "No, you didn't." Tebbutt clarified: "I don't know, I've just been told... I'm just the messenger," before North apologised: "Oh, I'm so sorry. Apologies."
Format change for the episode
Earlier in the show, Tebbutt announced a format change, removing the "food hell" option typically offered to viewers for voting. He explained: "Jordan, William, the viewers are in charge of what you get to eat at the end of the show. Because we're all about good manners here, and the two of you are in the hot seat, we've graciously removed hell from the equation this week." Instead, viewers could only vote for one of the guests' food heavens.
North described his ideal dish: "I just love a curry. I'm from Burnley in Lancashire, we love a curry there. Every time someone says to me, 'Shall we go out for something to eat, or should we get something in tonight?' I'm like, 'It's got to be a curry'. I love it." Hanson chose beef wellington, joking: "Nothing says summer more."
Viewer vote and dish preparation
54% of viewers voted for the beef wellington, leading Tebbutt to prepare a summery version. He wrapped a fillet of beef in pastry with ricotta, herbs, and lemon, serving it with a raw shallot salad and tarragon cream. The episode also featured chefs Poppy O'Toole and Paul Ainsworth, along with McGinn. Saturday Kitchen is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
