Romeo Beckham, the 23-year-old model and son of David and Victoria Beckham, has been convicted after being caught using his phone while driving his Porsche 911, with an unrestrained dog in the car.
The incident occurred in Westminster last September when a police officer spotted Beckham with both hands on his phone instead of the steering wheel while waiting at a red light. A woman in the passenger seat was also looking at her phone and had an unrestrained dog on her lap.
At Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 11, Beckham was convicted of not being in proper control of his vehicle. He was fined £440, given three penalty points, and ordered to pay £130 in costs and a £176 victim surcharge.
Police Constable Luke Short of the Metropolitan Police described seeing Beckham scrolling on his phone with his thumbs while holding it near the steering wheel. The officer also noted the unrestrained dog, which violates Highway Code Rule 57 requiring animals to be suitably restrained in a vehicle.
Beckham was offered the chance to pay a fine and attend a driver awareness course but did not respond. He was then prosecuted through the single justice procedure, which handles driving offences in private hearings. He did not enter a plea and was convicted based on police evidence.
