The Duke of Sussex was reportedly left 'disappointed' after the Royal Family did not see the similarities between his now-wife, Meghan Markle, and his late mother, Princess Diana.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their relationship in 2016 and got engaged the year after. By 2018, they tied the knot and worked as senior working royals for two years, before stepping down and moving to the US.

Author's claims about family reaction

A royal author claimed that when Harry introduced his then-girlfriend to Diana's sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, he didn't get the response he wanted.

Tom Bower wrote in his book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors: "Harry assumed that Diana's family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems."

But he added: "He was disappointed. No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend.

"More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family."

Harry's comparison in docuseries

In their docuseries on Netflix, Harry said about his wife: "So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her."

Meghan said in a podcast last year about Harry's comment: "It's beautiful. I wish I could have met her."

Relocation to the UK

It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the UK last month, six years after leaving the country.

Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet flew into the country on a private plane from California, landing at Birmingham Airport. The family were said to have travelled on a Bombardier Global Express XRS luxury long-range business jet for the overnight flight.

A spokesman for the duke and duchess declined to comment on their travel movements, citing the importance of privacy and security.
