Inquest into Strictly Star Robin Windsor's Death Continues
An inquest into the tragic death of former Strictly Come Dancing professional Robin Windsor is proceeding today in London. The dancer, who was 44 years old, took his own life in February 2024. The hearing is examining the circumstances surrounding his passing, with emotional testimony from his close friend and former dance partner, Lisa Riley.
Lisa Riley's Heartbreaking Testimony
Emmerdale actress Lisa Riley, who was partnered with Windsor on the tenth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, provided a prewritten statement that was read aloud in court. Riley described Windsor as her "best friend" and "rock", emphasizing that their bond endured long after their time on the show. "To say we hit it off was an understatement. We were joined at the hip," she stated.
Riley revealed that Windsor battled severe personal issues, including "imposter syndrome" and body image insecurities. She noted that he used steroids to alter his physique, which she believed exacerbated the effects of his heavy drinking. Additionally, Riley disclosed that Windsor had confided in her about being molested by an old dance teacher, a traumatic experience that haunted him.
Financial and Emotional Struggles
The actress's testimony painted a picture of a man "drowning in debt" due to lavish spending on gifts in romantic relationships. Riley explained that Windsor craved love and often fell in love quickly, using parties, alcohol, and recreational drugs to mask his true feelings. "I warned him so many times he was covering up his true feelings with booze, parties, and recreational drugs," she said.
Riley's statement highlighted how these financial pressures, combined with his mental health battles, created a perfect storm of despair. She expressed concern over his inability to cope with these overwhelming challenges, which ultimately contributed to his tragic decision.
Ongoing Inquest Proceedings
The inquest, which began two years after Windsor's death, aims to provide a clearer understanding of the factors leading to his suicide. Today's session focused on Riley's evidence, shedding light on the private struggles Windsor faced away from the glitz of the dance floor. The hearing continues as authorities seek to piece together the full narrative of his life and death.
