Perez Hilton Shares Recovery Update After Sepsis and Blood Clot Surgery
Perez Hilton Recovers from Sepsis and Blood Clot Surgery

Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton has delivered an uplifting health update on Tuesday, following a harrowing medical ordeal that saw him nearly die from sepsis and undergo emergency surgery for a dangerous blood clot. The 48-year-old media personality, who spent 21 days hospitalised after developing an ulcer from taking flu medication without food, faced another crisis when doctors discovered a deep vein thrombosis in his leg.

Walking Again After Weeks of Bedrest

In a new video shared to his Instagram account, Hilton appeared emotional but determined as he moved with the aid of a walker, having been largely bedridden for weeks. "I can finally walk again!!" he wrote triumphantly in the caption. Over the clip, he added that his pain remained "still bold but manageable" while expressing gratitude for his recovery, stating "Glory be to God!"

Emergency Surgery for Massive Blood Clot

Hilton explained in a lengthy caption that just days after his initial hospitalisation for severe sepsis, he was readmitted with a deep vein thrombosis in his right leg. "On Friday, my cardiovascular surgeon removed the most MASSIVE, fully occluded blood clot - it went from my groin to just below my calf," he revealed.

The blogger described how hours after his thrombectomy procedure, his doctor insisted he walk to prevent further coagulation issues. "So I walked, and it was the most excruciating pain of my life," Hilton recalled. He was discharged on Saturday but had to cancel his planned Easter Sunday celebrations due to intense discomfort.

Gratitude and Gradual Improvement

"Thank GOD that I can finally walk again - slowly," Hilton wrote. "And, though the pain is still very pronounced, I can tolerate it - and do this all without meds. Amen!!" He concluded his message optimistically: "Every day will get easier and I will get stronger!!! And so it shall be!"

The video showed Hilton slowly approaching the camera while using his walker, dressed in a black top and bright red shorts. This positive development comes after he shared from his hospital bed last week that he had detected the problem early. "We caught this early," he explained. "I went to the surgeon today - really good timing - and last night I started having real soreness and pain in one of my legs."

Previous Health Crisis and Reflection

Two weeks earlier, Hilton had revealed that taking flu medication on an empty stomach caused an ulcer that led to his initial 21-day hospital stay. "My stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days. It was the worst and best thing that's ever happened to me," he admitted at the time.

He detailed how the ulcer developed into a perforation and then sepsis, a potentially fatal condition. "People die of Sepsis," he noted gravely. The intense stomach pain left him unable to walk, requiring ambulance transport to the emergency room.

Successful Surgery and Recovery Process

After an ultrasound confirmed the deep vein thrombosis, Hilton expressed relief at early detection. "I am so thankful to God that we caught this early because if that blood clot had gone to my lungs or my heart, it could have been real bad," he said.

Following his successful thrombectomy, Hilton posted another update declaring "God is so good." He described the surgery as "quick and painless" while he was under anesthesia, adding "I feel so much better already!" The surgical team showed him the extracted clot, which he described as "ginormous" and completely occluding the vein from groin to below the calf.

Career and Personal Life Context

Hilton launched his influential celebrity gossip blog in 2004, originally called PageSixSixSix.com before rebranding to PerezHilton.com. Throughout his career, he has befriended numerous Hollywood celebrities while building his media empire.

In recent years, Hilton has expressed regret about some of his past coverage, particularly regarding Britney Spears' 2007 breakdown, acknowledging he has grown "older and wiser." While still active in celebrity news, he now focuses significant attention on raising his three children - Mario, 13, Mia, 10, and Mayte, eight - all born via surrogate using eggs from the same anonymous donor.

"All kids are mine genetically," Hilton wrote in a 2017 HuffPost essay. "While I don't rule out adoption in the future, for me it was important to have kids with my DNA. My dad passed away when I was 15 and having my children is a way of him living on through them - literally."

The blogger's health journey continues as he navigates recovery from both sepsis and major surgery, demonstrating remarkable resilience through his public updates and determination to regain mobility.
