Renate Reinsve Stopped Sister from Touching DiCaprio at Globes

Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, star of the multi-award winning film Sentimental Value, has shared a hilarious anecdote from the Golden Globes, where she had to physically intervene to stop her sister from impulsively touching Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio. The 38-year-old actress, who brought her sister as her plus one to the ceremony last month, recounted the incident in a recent interview with The Times, describing how both women got "so drunk" during the glamorous evening.

Sister's Unbelievable Encounter with DiCaprio

Reinsve's sister, who remains unnamed and lives "deep in the Norwegian countryside," experienced what she considered an unbelievable stroke of luck when DiCaprio accidentally stepped on the train of her dress. The Titanic actor smiled and apologised, triggering what Reinsve described as a "really deep impulse" in her sister to touch him. "I had to stand between them and say, 'Please, don't do it, be cool. Step away!'" Reinsve revealed, highlighting the surreal nature of the encounter for her rural-dwelling sibling.

A Night of Excessive Celebration

Despite the potential awkwardness of the situation, Reinsve insisted it didn't dampen their evening. "Oh no, the two of us had so much fun that night, we got so drunk!" she exclaimed. The sisters made the most of their opportunity to rub shoulders with Hollywood's elite, thoroughly enjoying the booze on offer at the prestigious awards ceremony.

BAFTA Red Carpet Mishap

Fast forward to Sunday's BAFTA Awards, and it was Reinsve's turn to offer apologies after she accidentally stepped on the gown of fellow actress Mia McKenna-Bruce. While walking past the former CBBC star, who was being interviewed on the red carpet, Reinsve unintentionally stood on the train of McKenna-Bruce's embellished black dress. She quickly apologised, with McKenna-Bruce graciously responding, "No, you're fine, it's fine. It takes up a lot of space." Reinsve complimented her colleague's appearance before moving through the crowd.

Awards Recognition and Competition

Reinsve was nominated for the Leading Actress award at the BAFTAs for her role in Sentimental Value but ultimately lost to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet. In her acceptance speech, Buckley reflected on her journey from childhood dreams to professional recognition, thanking her agent for encouraging her "to be disobedient and curious and human."

The evening's big winner was One Battle After Another, which received a record 14 nominations and secured six awards including Best Film, Best Director, and Adapted Screenplay. Director Paul Thomas Anderson celebrated the achievement, declaring, "Anybody that says movies aren't any good any more they can piss off because this is just a great f*****g year."

Meanwhile, the highly acclaimed ping pong drama Marty Supreme, which entered the ceremony with 11 nominations, surprisingly left empty-handed. Timothee Chalamet, tipped as a favourite for his role in the film, lost the Best Actor prize to Robert Aramayo of I Swear.
