Prince William is celebrating his 44th birthday today, but his late mother Princess Diana once left him mortified with a naughty birthday cake for his 13th birthday. Former Buckingham Palace chef Darren McGrady revealed that Diana ordered a cake shaped like a pair of breasts, causing William to go 'bright red'.
Cheeky cake revelation
McGrady told Hello! magazine: 'I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I've ever seen in my life. The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William's 13th birthday.' He added: 'The Princess loved embarrassing people in the nicest way, in a fun way, whether it was telling a dirty, risqué joke – which usually got me. William just went bright red.'
According to The Daily Mail, Prince Harry reportedly adored the cake and even requested one for himself.
William's 44th birthday
Today marks William's fourth birthday since his father, King Charles, bestowed upon him the title Prince of Wales following the late Queen's death in 2022. His wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, has likely prepared a thoughtful present and perhaps a cake for the occasion, but it is unlikely to resemble the cheeky one his mother organised 31 years ago.
Royal history
Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales was born at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, at 9:03 pm on 21 June 1982, weighing 7lb 11½oz. At just nine months old, he broke royal tradition by accompanying his parents on a six-week official tour of Australia and New Zealand.
His mother Diana, who separated from Charles in 1992, died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. William was 15 and Harry 12 when they walked behind her coffin during the funeral procession through London.
Marriage and family
William met Kate Middleton while studying at St Andrews University in Fife, Scotland. They married in 2011 after an eight-year romance. On his wedding morning, the Queen granted him the title Duke of Cambridge. The couple have three children: George (born 2013), Charlotte (2015), and Louis (2018). After the Queen's death in September 2022, William and Kate became the Prince and Princess of Wales, with the King announcing their titles in his address to the nation.
