Tyson Fury has revealed he has cut off contact with his wife Paris and their children to concentrate fully on his upcoming trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder. The Gypsy King is preparing for his first ring return since February 2020, when he defeated Wilder in emphatic fashion.
Fury explained that he cannot switch between being a family man and a fighter, so he has chosen to isolate himself from family life during training camp. 'While I'm in camp, I have no involvement in what's going on at home. It sounds very selfish, but I've got a serious job to handle here,' he said.
The heavyweight champion acknowledged the sacrifices his family must make, stating, 'Right now, I'm putting my neck on the line so they can eat food. I'm putting my neck on the line so they can have a good life.' He added that his camp has been shortened to three weeks due to problems at home, including the ill health of his newborn daughter Athena.
Despite the disruptions, Fury insists he is in the best shape of his life and injury-free. He dismissed Wilder's previous excuses for their last defeat, saying, 'When you get beat, you get beat. Shake the man's hand and move on.' Fury vowed to come out 'all guns blazing' from the first round.
The trilogy bout, originally scheduled for July but postponed after Fury tested positive for coronavirus, will take place in Las Vegas next weekend. A victory could set up a domestic clash with fellow Briton Dillian Whyte, though a fight with Anthony Joshua now appears unlikely after Joshua's defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.
