Nicki Minaj Delineates Transgender Stance: Full Support for Adults, Firm Opposition for Minors
In a newly surfaced interview clip obtained by TMZ, global rap superstar Nicki Minaj has articulated her views on transgender issues with striking clarity. The 43-year-old artist, speaking with Katie Miller, emphasised that her position is frequently misconstrued, leading to widespread misunderstanding of her actual concerns.
Drawing a Clear Line: Adult Autonomy Versus Child Protection
Minaj was unequivocal in her support for adult decision-making, stating plainly: 'I want to make it clear that I don't personally have an issue with the trans part of the LGBT at all. I am the biggest advocate for adults to do whatever the heck they want, they're adults.' This declaration establishes her fundamental principle of respecting personal autonomy for fully developed individuals.
However, the rapper's stance undergoes a significant shift when the discussion turns to minors. She draws a firm ethical boundary at medical procedures for children, explaining: 'I only mentioned something when it comes to children.' To illustrate her point, Minaj referenced cosmetic surgery, noting that '99% of parents wouldn't let their 17-year-old get breast implants.'
Her reasoning centres on developmental biology, arguing that 'if you wouldn't let a child get breast implants, you wouldn't want them to get any kind of surgery - because we all know the brain isn't developed.' This comparison forms the cornerstone of her opposition to gender-affirming medical interventions for minors, while maintaining her non-judgmental approach toward adult choices.
Political Critique: Minaj Takes Aim at Gavin Newsom
The conversation expanded into political territory, with Minaj delivering a blistering assessment of California Governor Gavin Newsom and his national aspirations. After reiterating that 'I don't judge adults,' she accused Newsom of being excessively preoccupied with former President Donald Trump while neglecting broader societal issues.
Minaj suggested that Newsom's conduct on social media and his public disputes with various artists demonstrate a temperament unsuited for national leadership. She concluded bluntly: 'we would never want someone like that to be president.' These remarks echo a series of posts she shared on X in December 2025, where she sharply criticised Newsom after he publicly expressed support for transgender children.
At that time, Minaj wrote: 'Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids.' In subsequent posts, she mocked Newsom's perceived presidential ambitions, likening him to Tom Cruise and quipping that his 'next mission IS impossible.' She repeatedly posted 'shame on him' and shared a fabricated image depicting the governor behind bars.
Defending Trump and Exploring a Political Calling
During the same podcast appearance, Minaj elaborated on her reasons for publicly supporting Donald Trump despite facing intense backlash. She cited 'religious freedom' as a significant factor drawing her toward conservative politics, but revealed a more personal motivation: witnessing what she described as relentless bullying directed at Trump during his campaign.
'When I saw how he was being treated over and over and over, I just couldn't handle it,' Minaj explained. She drew parallels between Trump's experience and her own, claiming: 'I felt that same bullying in this man's campaign, and all of the lying. I felt that that had been done to me for so many years, and I was watching it in real time happen to someone else.'
The rapper also reflected on what she described as a long-held sense of having 'a second job to do' beyond music. She suggested that during the recent presidential campaign, she felt compelled to speak out, believing her predictions were 'coming to fruition' and that she might be stepping into a new vocation. 'Sometimes people can push you SO MUCH that they push you all the way into your next calling,' she cryptically revealed.
Grammy Backlash and Strengthened Resolve
Minaj's political alignment has attracted significant criticism, including from 2026 Grammy Awards host Trevor Noah. During his opening monologue, Noah noted her absence from the ceremony, quipping: 'Nicki Minaj is not here. She is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues.' He then launched into a Trump impersonation that mocked their association.
The rapper fired back the following morning on X, writing: 'As they do their ritual tonight, God almighty will reveal himself to them. The ritual will backfire on them. God will not be mocked. Blessed is the MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS CHRIST. Every tongue that rises up against me in judgement shall be condemned & put to shame.'
In recent developments, Minaj has intensified her support, even referring to herself as Trump's 'number one fan.' She appeared at a Washington DC event focused on Trump Accounts, where she was photographed taking the former president's hand. From the podium at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, she declared: 'I am probably the president's No. 1 fan. And that's not going to change.'
She added that criticism only strengthens her resolve and that of Trump's supporters: 'We're not going to let them get away with bullying him, and, you know, the smear campaigns, it's not going to work, OK? He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him. Amen?' Trump responded off-microphone, telling the rapper: 'That is so nice, thank you.'
As Minaj exited the stage, she again shook Trump's hand, with the two briefly holding hands during subsequent remarks. This unusual moment quickly circulated online, reigniting debate about her outspoken political allegiance and the motivations behind their unexpected alliance.
