Nickelodeon Star Devon Werkheiser 'Heartbroken' Over Homeless Former Co-Star
Nickelodeon star's heartbreak as former co-star found homeless

Devon Werkheiser, the actor best known for playing the lead role in the hit Nickelodeon series Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, has spoken of his devastation after discovering a former child star co-star is now living on the streets.

Viral Video Reveals Former Actor's Plight

The situation came to light after a video filmed by a passer-by went viral on social media in late 2025. The footage showed Tylor Chase, who played Martin Qwerly on the popular 2000s Nickelodeon sitcom, sleeping rough in Los Angeles. The individual filming initially mistook Tylor for a Disney Channel actor, to which he quietly corrected, "Nickelodeon", before specifying his role on Ned's Declassified.

Devon Werkheiser, now 34, told TMZ he was "heartbroken" to see the clip circulating online. He described his former colleague as a "sensitive, sweet, and kind kid" during their time working together on the show. Werkheiser admitted he has not been in contact with Chase for nearly two decades, since the series ended.

A Complex Struggle with Addiction and Mental Health

In his statement, Werkheiser framed the situation as a demonstration of the severe challenges posed by addiction and mental health issues. "Anyone who has dealt with severe addiction and deep mental health issues knows it's an unbelievably challenging situation if they don't want help," he said. He emphasised that recovery is an "everyday uphill battle" requiring immense support, patience, and time.

While urging the public to be thoughtful before filming vulnerable people, Werkheiser expressed a hope that the viral attention might lead to a positive outcome. "My only hope is that from this exposure, someone with real understanding and resources can step in, get Tylor into treatment, and help him get back on track," he stated. "We all want a happy ending."

Police Confirm Outreach Efforts

Authorities in Riverside, California, where Chase was filmed in September 2025, confirmed the former actor's homeless status. Riverside Police Department Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback informed the Mail that they do not know how long Chase has been experiencing homelessness, but noted he has been "cordial and cooperative" during all police interactions.

Officer Railsback confirmed that police outreach teams make contact with Chase at least once a week, consistently offering him resources including temporary shelter options. However, it was reported that Tylor Chase has so far declined offers of shelter, substance abuse treatment, and mental health services. Police confirmed he is not wanted for any crimes.

The news has also resonated with other former cast members. On the Ned's Declassified Podcast Survival Guide, co-star Daniel Curtis Lee said the footage was "difficult to watch" and "scary", admitting he felt "powerless" upon seeing it.
