Meghan Markle Set for Acting Comeback as Netflix Partnership Concludes
The exclusive $100 million Netflix deal between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has reportedly ended and is not expected to be renewed. This development has sparked widespread speculation about Meghan's next career move, with insiders suggesting she is ready to return to acting for the first time since 2015.
Industry Insiders Predict 'Mind-Blowing' Return
Veteran actor Eric Roberts, who worked with Meghan on the legal drama Suits, recently expressed strong support for her potential comeback. "I think she should come back. I think she will come back. And I think she's going to be fantastic and blow everybody's mind," Roberts stated during a red carpet appearance at a charity gala last week.
His wife, casting director and manager Eliza Roberts, echoed this sentiment, adding: "It is time. And Meghan needs to come back to work. I feel like her whole family will support it, and she is amazing." Eliza, 73, further highlighted Meghan's innate talent, noting: "From the second you see her, she just has star quality. It doesn't matter. It was always going to happen."
Netflix Deal Unravels Amidst Criticism
The reported end of the Netflix partnership comes after negative reviews for the second series of With Love, Meghan. Additionally, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos recently unfollowed both Meghan and her lifestyle brand As Ever on Instagram, signaling a cooling relationship. An insider from the streaming platform confirmed the situation, telling reporters the company was "done" with Meghan and Harry.
This termination has left the couple in a challenging position, but the acting industry appears eager to welcome Meghan back. Her last credited role was in 2018 when she left Suits, a decision Eliza Roberts attributed to Royal Family concerns about her "very sexy" character, paralegal Rachel Zane.
Canceled Projects and Royal Speculation
Meghan had previously developed a passion project for Netflix, an animated series titled Pearl, but it was canceled before production began as the partnership was scaled back. Since then, rumors have circulated that Meghan and Prince Harry might re-engage with royal duties, especially as they plan philanthropic engagements during an upcoming trip to Australia in April.
However, the couple has been advised to prepare for a mixed reception during their visit Down Under. An insider warned: "I think there will be plenty of monarchists and republicans who won’t welcome Harry and Meghan’s visit. Any 'royal' visit, even by members of the family who no longer represent the King, will inevitably create debate about the monarchy."
This trip follows closely on the heels of King Charles' visit to the United States, his first since December 2018. During Charles' last Australian visit in October 2024, officials at New South Wales Parliament expressed disappointment over certain aspects of the monarch's presence, highlighting ongoing sensitivities around royal engagements.
