Jason Momoa Forced to Flee Hawaii Home as Historic Floods Ravage Oahu
Hollywood star Jason Momoa has provided a personal safety update after being compelled to evacuate his residence on Oahu, Hawaii, as the island state confronts its most severe flooding event in two decades. The Aquaman actor confirmed his family's evacuation from the North Shore area, where power outages and dangerous conditions have affected thousands.
Massive Evacuations and Rescue Operations Underway
More than 2,000 residents remained without electricity on Sunday afternoon following a powerful storm that initially triggered evacuation orders for approximately 5,500 people north of Honolulu. Although these orders were subsequently lifted, emergency services conducted over 200 water rescues as floodwaters rapidly rose across the region.
"I got my family with me. We got out of the North Shore... our power went off... We're safe for now, but there's a lot of people who weren't, so we're sending all our love," Momoa shared in an Instagram Story on Saturday, according to People magazine. He added, "The North Shore is pretty gnarly right now. So hopefully everyone's safe and getting out... Stay safe out there."
Iconic North Shore Submerged Under Muddy Floodwaters
The famous North Shore of Oahu, renowned globally for its big-wave surfing beaches, has been transformed into a disaster zone with homes and vehicles dislodged by torrential floodwaters. The extreme conditions resulted from heavy rainfall falling upon soil already saturated by downpours from a winter storm that struck just one week earlier.
Governor Josh Green has projected that the storm's financial impact could exceed $1 billion, encompassing substantial damage to critical infrastructure including airports, schools, road networks, residential properties, and a hospital facility in Kula, Maui. "This is going to have a very serious consequence for us as a state," Governor Green emphasized during a recent news conference.
Momoa Postpones Musical Performance to Focus on Relief Efforts
The actor's musical group, ÖOF TATATÁ, had been scheduled to perform on O'ahu over the weekend, but the concert has been postponed indefinitely due to the ongoing emergency situation. Instead of performing, Momoa redirected his attention toward community support initiatives.
On Saturday, the 46-year-old actor posted a video showing himself alongside his girlfriend, actress Adria Arjona, 33, distributing meals from the popular Hawaiian diner chain Zippy's to individuals who had lost their homes or been forced to evacuate.
"These past weeks have been heavy. The storms, the flooding, the constant rain across Oʻahu have affected so many of our people, especially those already facing hardship," Momoa wrote in his social media caption. "Seeing families displaced, communities struggling, and our unhoused neighbors hit the hardest."
He continued, "We spent time on the west side, just trying to show love, bring some food, and remind our community that we see you, we stand with you, and you're not alone. That's what aloha is. It's showing up for each other when it matters most."
Federal Support Promised for Recovery Operations
Governor Green confirmed that his chief of staff has communicated with White House officials and received firm assurances that Hawaii will receive comprehensive federal support to address the widespread damage and assist with recovery efforts. The state government is coordinating closely with federal agencies to implement emergency response measures.
Momoa, who was previously married to actress Lisa Bonet and shares two children with her, took his relationship with Arjona public in May 2024. His personal experience with the evacuation and subsequent community assistance efforts highlight the broader challenges facing Hawaii residents during this unprecedented weather disaster.
