Meghan Markle has revealed her first impression of Princess Catherine, describing parts of their initial encounter as "jarring" in the second episode of the Harry & Meghan docuseries.
The sisters-in-law first met six months after Prince Harry and Meghan began dating. Meghan recalled: "I met her [Kate] for the first time, I think we went for dinner. I remember I was in ripped jeans and barefoot. I was a hugger, I've always been a hugger, I didn't realise that that was jarring for a lot of Brits."
She added: "I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door, [sighs], I can relax now."
Royal Rift and the 'Fab Four'
The two couples, once dubbed the "Fab Four," have not been seen together in years following the fallout between brothers Prince Harry and Prince William. After Harry and Meghan quit royal life, they made a series of public attacks on his family, and the brothers are reportedly no longer in contact.
In his book, Omid Scobie wrote that Princess Catherine, who apparently "wasn't a fan" of Meghan, "can be cold if she doesn't like someone."
Lip Gloss Incident and UK Return
Prince Harry's memoir references a time when Meghan asked to borrow a lip gloss from Catherine ahead of their appearance at the first Royal Foundation forum summit in 2018. According to Harry, Catherine was surprised but rummaged in her bag before offering it, and later made a "disgusted" face as Meghan applied it.
Meghan and Harry returned to the UK at the end of August after six years in the US. They privately met with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House in July, but the Sussexes and the Waleses have yet to meet, leaving royal fans and experts questioning the future of their relationship.
