Martin Kemp, 64, Promises Not to Avoid I'm A Celebrity Jungle Shower
Martin Kemp won't avoid I'm A Celeb Jungle shower

Eighties music icon and actor Martin Kemp has confirmed he will be embracing one of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'s most famous traditions – the Jungle shower. The 64-year-old star, who found fame as the guitarist in Spandau Ballet, is set to enter the ITV reality show and has assured fans he won't be shy when it comes to washing under the camera's gaze.

Following in Roman's Footsteps

Kemp is following a path already trodden by his son, Roman Kemp, who finished in third place on the show's 2019 series. The former Capital Breakfast host was the first person Martin consulted about taking the job. 'Roman told me to go for it and said he was jealous of me going in,' Martin revealed. However, the father-of-two admitted he had to eventually tell his son to stop offering advice, joking that if he does well, Roman will 'just claim the win.'

Embracing the Jungle Experience

When asked about his potential role in the camp, Kemp stated he has no intention of being false. 'If you go in there and try and be something, it never works,' he said, drawing on his extensive life experience. He also firmly ruled out the possibility of quitting, declaring, 'I've never gotten up and walked away from anything in my life.' His past experience living with large groups in Spandau Ballet has, in his view, prepared him for camp life.

The EastEnders actor, who has been married to singer Shirlie Holliman for over 35 years, shared that his wife is supportive of his new adventure. He explained that Shirlie is 'glad that I'm doing it because she knows I need to take some time out for myself.' Kemp, who currently spends three nights a week DJing across the country, was pictured at Heathrow airport on Monday night as he began his journey to Australia for the show, which starts on Sunday.
