Mahrez risks WAG's wrath with 'birds in Dubai' quip

Former Premier League star Riyad Mahrez has risked the wrath of his wife Taylor Ward after making a joke about "birds in Dubai" during a livestream with Dele Alli. The Algerian, who last played for Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, made the comment while appearing on Alli's stream.

Live stream slip-up

The former Spurs star was live streaming to his fans when Mahrez made a surprise appearance. "I'm in London, streaming, I was just calling people, they can hear you, they can hear you live on stream bro," Alli told the Algerian. However, Mahrez might not have heard Dele as he responded: "I'm in Dubai bro. There are some f****** birds in here bro, honestly."

Dele quickly realised what the ex-Manchester City star had said and moved away from the microphone and out of shot. Upon returning on screen, Dele had a cheeky smile across his face, realising he had stitched up his mate.

Marriage and move abroad

Mahrez is married to Manchester-born Taylor Ward, with the couple tying the knot in 2023. Their relationship was documented in the Amazon Prime reality series 'Married to the Game'. During the series, the couple had just moved to the Middle East. Taylor admitted she is all alone when not with Mahrez, living away from her close-knit family and lifelong friends.

She emotionally said: "At Man City we had a box, Riyad always brought a few friends and I'd bring my friends as well, course the kids and whoever else. My family, whenever they were home they used to come. I better get used to this because I have no mates. All my friends are my primary school friends and high school friends. I've not really had to make new friends since then, which is crazy. It's a crazy thought that I'm going to have to start trying to make new friends."

"I said to Riyad from the beginning that the thing that scares me most is him moving abroad. I've always lived in Manchester, I've never had to move away, but my biggest fear is having to move to a new country, make new friends and be away from my family. I've never been so far away from my sister before. I've never had to move away and still run a business," she said before breaking down in tears while speaking to her sister, Darby.

"If someone said to me five years ago that I'd be moving to Saudi Arabia with a husband and a child, I wouldn't have believed them," she later added. "I would have thought they were talking about the wrong person. I never envisaged my life anywhere other than Manchester."
