A woman in her 60s is in a serious condition in hospital after a three-car crash on the M62. A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Crash details
Greater Manchester Police said the collision happened between junction 20 and 21 of the westbound carriageway of the motorway near Rochdale. The crash involved a Mercedes van and a Volvo, which then collided with a Vauxhall Insignia, police said.
The westbound carriageway was shut for about 10 hours until it was re-opened at about 9.30am today (October 11). Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage is being asked to come forward.
Police statement
In a statement, the force said: "A man has been arrested and a woman remains in a serious condition in hospital following a collision on the M62 on Saturday evening (10 October). At approximately 10.10pm, we received reports of a collision involving three vehicles on the westbound carriageway between Junctions 20 and 21 of the M62 motorway."
"Initial enquiries indicate that a Mercedes van was involved in a collision with a Volvo, which subsequently collided with a Vauxhall Insignia. Emergency services, including officers from Greater Manchester Police, and colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene."

Appeal for witnesses
"Officers from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are continuing their enquiries and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Investigators are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident."
