Married At First Sight UK star Peggy Rose has bravely shared a devastating update on her fertility journey, revealing she now faces just a one per cent chance of conceiving a child following a heartbreaking IVF setback this week.
A Heartbreaking Outcome
The 33-year-old reality television personality, who has been on a determined journey to become a mother for several months, recently began her preparatory injections with hope. However, a hospital visit for an egg collection procedure on Tuesday delivered crushing news. Peggy entered the procedure with eight good-sized follicles, only to be told that medical staff managed to collect just a single egg, with its maturity still unconfirmed.
In a lengthy and emotional social media post accompanied by photographs in her hospital gown, Peggy wrote: 'Sorry I didn't give an update yesterday. It was the most emotional day yet.' She described the profound difficulty of processing the outcome after all the injections and the operation. 'I'm so grateful for the opportunity and the staff were amazing but it's hard not to be disappointed!'
Sharing the Raw Truth
Peggy admitted the experience made her question sharing her journey publicly for the first time, unsure how she would find the courage to explain the setback without it crushing her. However, she committed to being transparent. 'I promised to share both the highs and the lows, so here is the raw truth (the low) in the hope that it helps someone,' she stated.
She confessed to having realistic hopes of retrieving at least a few eggs from the multiple follicles, noting that the journey is a constant reminder that outcomes are unpredictable. 'Right now I'm trying to stay positive and hopeful that it's a good egg, that it matures and fertilises. We'll find out tomorrow. And now comes the dreaded wait… the unknown is honestly the hardest part.'
The Procedure and Recovery
Detailing the surgery itself, Peggy explained it was straightforward. She was in and out of theatre within about twenty minutes, sedated with oxygen and feeling no pain, requiring only paracetamol afterwards. She reported some pain in her right ovary, speculating it might be due to a higher concentration of follicles there.
She praised the medical staff, who offered tea, hot chocolate, or coffee with a biscuit upon waking—a small comfort on a deeply disappointing day. After hearing the news, her immediate desire was to return home to her own bed to recover while hoping and praying for good news.
In her post, she concluded with gratitude for the support from followers, acknowledging its immense value. She starkly assessed her chances: 'One egg… I think we only have a 1-3% chance now but we're staying hopeful.'
Background and Fertility Struggles
Peggy first spoke about her desire for children in 2024, revealing significant underlying health concerns. 'I'm not sure if I can have children,' she admitted, linking the issue to a history of anxiety and stress. She disclosed she had not had a menstrual cycle for five years, diagnosed with secondary hypothalamic amenorrhea, a condition related to stress.
'I want to find someone that wants kids too and helps me to have them - it's going to be a big process, I'll probably need IVF, and that's quite scary,' she said at the time, expressing how gutted she was by the prognosis received months prior.
Past Relationship and New Love
Peggy Rose rose to fame on the 2023 series of Married At First Sight UK, where she was partnered with Georges Berthonneau. Their marriage did not last long after the series concluded. Peggy later opened up about the split in 2024, claiming that fame 'went to his head' and ultimately destroyed their relationship and sex life.
She alleged that Georges became obsessed with the attention, telling The Sun: 'Boys like attention, especially when boys haven't had the attention before. I feel they get a bit big headed.' The situation escalated when, on Valentine's Day 2024, Peggy went public with evidence she claimed showed Georges had cheated on her, leaving her heartbroken and feeling she had let down her family, who had grown to love him.
Georges has strongly denied all cheating allegations, countering that it was Peggy's actions—including gaslighting and manipulation seen on the show—that pushed him away.
Thankfully, Peggy has since found love again with a new, private partner who shares her values and desire for children. 'He's just a normal guy, he's not a millionaire,' she beamed, expressing hope that he might be 'the one,' especially after compromising on her wish for children during her relationship with Georges.
Her journey continues, marked by this latest emotional and medical hurdle, as she maintains a fragile hope against the statistical odds.
