Former Married at First Sight Australia groom Tyson Gordon has addressed controversial comments he made during his stint on the reality show, clarifying that he misspoke when he said he wanted a 'submissive woman'. In a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, the property developer explained that he meant 'traditional' rather than submissive.
Gordon, who appeared in Series 13 of the Australian version, faced criticism after stating his desire for a submissive partner. However, he now claims he chose his words poorly. 'Submissive was the wrong word to use. Traditional is the word I was looking for,' he told the programme on Sunday (May 24). He added that he is not looking for a dog to obey him and does not intend to put his wife on a leash.
The reality star further clarified that he does not expect to chain a partner in the kitchen or demand sandwiches, emphasising that there is nothing wrong with wanting a traditional relationship if one can financially support it. Despite the backlash, Gordon remains open to finding a spouse who shares his traditional values.
During the show, MAFS experts matched Gordon with bride Stephanie Marshall, who appeared to embrace similar traditional ideals. However, the couple quickly proved incompatible, with friction arising over discussions about their intimate histories. Gordon expressed concern over Marshall having 20 sexual partners, despite having around 30 himself, later justifying his remarks as a 'preference' for a 'pure' girl.
Married at First Sight Australia Season 13 is currently streaming on Channel 4 online.
