Made in Chelsea star Joshua Patterson has completed his 73rd marathon in St Albans, Hertfordshire, as part of his challenge to run 76 marathons in 76 days for the Samaritans. The Run For 1 Million challenge aims to raise £1 million for the mental health charity.
Mr Patterson told BBC Three Counties Radio that local runners joining him helped 'vocalise that message that we're here to support as many as possible'. He also expressed a desire to 'achieve a world first' by running a marathon in every UK city, but stressed that the record was 'not important' compared to donations.
Nearly £186,000 has been raised so far, which Mr Patterson said had funded 'over 33,000 phone calls' to the Samaritans. He chose to run in all 76 cities because the charity has a hub in each one, ensuring the funds benefit the entire UK.
Reflecting on his own mental health struggles, Mr Patterson said he had 'hit rock bottom' but had support to get through it. He hopes his challenge spreads the message that help is available for those without such support.
This week's marathons included Chelmsford and Colchester, with Oxford next on the list. The final marathons will be in London on Friday and Saturday, after which he will feel 'so grateful' to his family, the public, and fellow runners.
