Leah Croucher's Family Speaks Out in New True Crime Documentary
Leah Croucher Family Documentary Interview

The family of Leah Croucher, a teenager who disappeared in February 2019, have spoken publicly for the first time in a new true crime documentary that explores her disappearance and the devastating impact on their lives.

Leah's Disappearance and the Search

Leah Croucher, 19, vanished while walking to work in Milton Keynes. Her parents, John and Claire, watched their world collapse as the search for their daughter became one of Britain's most high-profile missing person investigations. The case took years to resolve, with a catastrophic effect on the entire family.

In a heartbreaking double tragedy, Leah's brother Haydon died by suicide just nine months after her disappearance.

Discovery of Remains and Inquest

In October 2022, Leah's remains were discovered in a property in Furzton. An inquest concluded she had been unlawfully killed by Neil Maxwell, a convicted sex offender. Maxwell had been contracted to maintain the home where she was killed and was the sole person with access, as the property owners lived abroad. He died by suicide in April 2019, two months after Leah's disappearance.

Documentary Details

The documentary, titled The Search for Leah Croucher: A Parent's Nightmare, will broadcast on U and stream on UandW in 2026. Commissioning Editor Emile Nawagamuwa said: "Leah's disappearance moved the nation. At the heart of this story is a family who have faced unimaginable heartbreak with extraordinary courage. We are privileged that John, Claire and Jade have chosen to share their experience with us for the first time. This is an important and necessary film that not only honours Leah's memory, but also sparks vital conversations about how we ensure tragedies like this never happen again."

Public Tribute and Family Statement

Leah's funeral was held in March 2023, with mourners lining the streets to pay their respects. Her parents said in a statement: "The community outpouring displayed at the address in Furzton, as well as the countless messages of support displayed on a tree nearby, which have been compiled into a book by the local church on the estate has taken our breath away. As a family, this has brought us a large amount of comfort."

Now, for the first time, they are speaking in detail about the impact of the tragic loss on the entire family.
