Conor Bradley's ongoing recovery from a serious knee injury has handed Liverpool a difficult transfer decision as new head coach Andoni Iraola begins his tenure. The right-back, who turned 23 on Thursday, was pictured working at the AXA Training Centre with first-team rehabilitation physiotherapist David Breen, marking the first public recognition of his progress since the setback at Arsenal in early January.
Injury Details and Recovery
Bradley suffered bone and ligament damage in an innocuous incident at the Emirates, requiring surgery. Liverpool have not placed a timescale on his recovery, highlighting the complexity of the injury. Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill said in May: "He's doing well, you know, he's making progress, but it's not for me to put any type of timeline on that progress at this minute in time. We just want him back, fit and healthy, as do Liverpool, but it's important that how that injury is handled."
Right-Back Options Under Iraola
With Jeremie Frimpong inconsistently available and suffering below-average form last season, Liverpool were forced to mix and match at right-back. An effort to bolster options in January included a failed loan move for Lutsharel Geertruida and an aborted attempt to sign Denzel Dumfries, who subsequently left Inter Milan for Real Madrid. So far this summer, the club has been quiet on that front, partly due to the managerial change and Iraola's need to assess his resources.
Transfer Strategy and Bradley's Experience
Strengthening the right-back position could ease pressure on Bradley and allow Frimpong to operate more versatilely along the right flank. Liverpool may seek a multi-purpose player capable of covering centre-back or central midfield. Bradley has only started 29 Premier League games in his career and has never played more than nine in succession, remaining relatively unproven as a regular top-flight performer. Iraola is expected to provide more details on Bradley's situation when he faces the media on Monday.
