Nicole Kidman Says Marriage to Tom Cruise Shielded Her from Harassment

Nicole Kidman has revealed that her marriage to Tom Cruise provided her with 'protection' from sexual harassment early in her career. The Australian actress tied the knot with Cruise in 1990 after they co-starred in the film 'Days of Thunder'.

Kidman stated: 'I got married very young, but it definitely wasn't power for me - it was protection. I married for love, but being married to an extremely powerful man kept me from being sexually harassed.' The couple divorced in 2001.

Discussing the Hollywood harassment scandal, Kidman acknowledged: 'Of course I've had MeToo moments - since I was little! But do I want to expose them in an article? No. Do they come out in my work? Absolutely.'

Kidman and Cruise adopted two children during their marriage: Isabella, now 25, and Connor, now 23. Following the split, Kidman said she was forced to 'grow up', explaining: 'I would work, but I was still very much cocooned. So when I came out of it at 32, 33, it's almost like I had to grow up.'

Kidman later married country music singer Keith Urban in 2006, and the couple have two daughters: Sunday, 10, and Faith, seven. The Oscar-winning star is known for films including 'Moulin Rouge!', 'The Hours', 'Lion', 'The Others' and 'Dead Calm'.

Separately, Sir Michael Caine commented on the Weinstein scandal, telling the Radio Times that Hollywood is now a safer place for actresses. He said: 'There is one great thing, if it can be described like that, about Harvey and his behaviour. It's that actresses are safe now. No producer would dare to do anything sexually.'
