Katie Price Regrets Gareth Gates Story, Apologises

Katie Price has revealed one of her biggest regrets: selling a story about her brief relationship with Gareth Gates to the tabloids. Appearing on ITV's This Morning on 8 July 2026, the 48-year-old former glamour model spoke to presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard about her new documentary series, Nothing to Hide.

Regret Over Gareth Gates Story

Price explained that she had not seen or spoken to Gates for many years, but clarified that their relationship was serious and not just a "one-night thing." However, she expressed regret over going to the papers after their relationship ended. "There's so many regrets in my life of things I wish I didn't do and one of them was I wish I never did the story on Gareth," she said. "He was young. I had a manager, but at the same time, I'm like, but I've done nothing wrong, so why is he lying? You know, and I have hurt people along the way. But I can't unchange what I did. I can only apologise for my behaviour growing up."

The 2002 Tabloid Controversy

The controversy dates back to 2002 when Price, then known as "Jordan," revealed details of her secret relationship with Gates. At the time, Gates was 17 and had just finished as runner-up on Pop Idol, enjoying a wholesome public image. Price, then 23, was expecting her first child with footballer Dwight Yorke. In the explosive interview, she made intimate claims, including that she had been his first sexual partner.

Revenge Motive Revealed in Documentary

In her four-part documentary produced by Mindhouse, the company co-founded by Louis Theroux, Price admits the story was an act of revenge. "He was smelling of roses and I'm the villain," she says. "I would try and text and text, and I got nothing. I was left in the lurch and it really hurt me. I'm like, 'you hurt me and I'll get you back'. By telling the truth, like a revenge."

Documentary Covers Rise, Downfalls, and Relationships

Nothing to Hide covers Price's rise to fame, downfalls, and public relationships. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
