Josh Duhamel criticised for telling actors to avoid politics during Megyn Kelly interview

Josh Duhamel has faced backlash after suggesting that actors should stay out of politics, a statement he made during an appearance on Megyn Kelly’s conservative podcast.

The 53-year-old actor, who has largely avoided political commentary, said: “If you really want to be successful in this business, why would you make half of your audience despise you by your beliefs?” He added that he has “real strong opinions” but chooses not to share them to avoid alienating fans, describing himself as a “court jester” whose role is to “make cool stuff.”

Critics were quick to point out the irony of Duhamel making these remarks on Kelly’s show, which features right-wing political commentary. One social media user quipped: “I always refuse to reveal my political beliefs whenever I appear on Megyn Kelly’s show.” Others labelled him a “typical GOP hypocrite” and argued that he was “preaching” by telling celebrities what they should not say.

Duhamel is not alone in questioning the role of celebrities in politics. Last November, Jennifer Lawrence told The New York Times that “celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,” reflecting on her own past activism during the Trump administration.
