Jeremy Clarkson admits 'horrific' hospital dash was 'all his fault'
Jeremy Clarkson: Hospital dash was 'all my fault'

Jeremy Clarkson has admitted that his sudden hospital dash shown in the finale of Clarkson's Farm Season 5 was entirely his own fault, after he restarted blood-thinning medication without medical approval. The former Top Gear star, 66, disclosed the details following the release of the final two episodes, which revealed his prostate cancer diagnosis to co-stars Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland.

Clarkson's Health Scare and Cancer Diagnosis

In the season finale, Clarkson is seen lying in a hospital bed after an emergency, telling viewers: "If this is all successful, I'll see you for season six, and if it isn't, I won't. Take care, everyone." He has since confirmed he is now in remission, but the road to recovery was fraught with complications.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Clarkson explained: "That was horrific and it was all my own fault. I'd been on drugs for heart issues and I had to come off them during the cancer treatment." Season 5 had opened with Clarkson undergoing heart surgery in October 2024, which was successful but required weeks of rest.

The Mistake: Restarting Blood Thinners

Clarkson revealed that his post-operative medication interfered with his cancer treatment, leading to a return to hospital. "Two or three weeks after the cancer operation, I thought I'd better put myself back on those blood thinners," he said. "Big mistake, huge. It [resulted in] a very big emergency in the middle of the night. I'm not even going to go into the treatment that was required as a result of that, because it was horrible. I didn't ask a doctor, I just thought, 'I'm sure it will be all right to go back on blood thinners'."

Remission and Season 6

Thankfully, Clarkson reported that a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test taken two months ago showed no evidence of cancer. This has allowed production of a sixth season of Clarkson's Farm to proceed. He shared on Instagram: "So, bit of a year. But, I am delighted to tell you that Season 6 of Clarkson's Farm is currently being filmed. It's in production. And that's particularly good news for me because… well, if you know, you know. And, if you don't know, you need to watch Season 5."

Clarkson also noted lifestyle changes since his health scares, including driving slower, walking more, and eating vegetarian meals. Clarkson's Farm is available to stream on Prime Video.
