Hilary Duff's latest single, 'Mature,' has fans convinced the singer is taking a subtle swipe at Leonardo DiCaprio and his history of age-gap relationships. The 38-year-old former Disney star released her first song in a decade last week, with lyrics that appear to reference the 51-year-old actor.
In the pop-rock track, Duff sings: 'She's me, I'm her in a different font / Just a few years younger, a new haircut / Very Leo of you with your Scorpio touch.' Listeners have interpreted 'Leo' as a direct nod to DiCaprio, who is a Scorpio. The song also mentions a 'Basquiat' painting, which fans have linked to DiCaprio's ownership of a Jean-Michel Basquiat artwork, 'Red Man One,' which he voluntarily surrendered in 2017 amid a corruption scandal.
Further lyrics reference 'Carbon Beach,' where DiCaprio owned a Malibu home from 1998 to 2021. Fans have also connected Duff's 2007 song 'Danger,' which includes the line 'Were you born in '74?' — the year of DiCaprio's birth.
Speaking to Vogue, Duff said the song is 'definitely about a brief experience that I had a long, long time ago,' but added that she took 'artistic liberties' and it is 'not totally autobiographical.' She reflected on whether the man in question 'had a habit of dating younger women.'
Duff herself has dated older men, including Joel Madden when she was 16 and he was 25. DiCaprio, meanwhile, is currently in a relationship with 27-year-old model Vittoria Ceretti.
