Prince Harry has upset Meghan Markle during their visit to the United Kingdom, according to American showbiz journalist Nelson Aspen, who appeared on GB News. Aspen claimed that King Charles is playing both Harry and Meghan in what he described as “a giant game of chess.” The couple, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020, are reportedly struggling to reinvent themselves after a series of failed Hollywood projects.
Harry and Meghan's UK Visit: A Strategic Move?
Aspen, speaking to GB News anchor Will Kingston, suggested that Meghan was disappointed to miss public engagements during the trip. “I’m sure Meghan is very sad that she missed out on the public engagements, because with public engagements come cameras. So I’m sure she is very sad she missed out on the opportunity to be photographed in her triumphant return to the United Kingdom,” Aspen said. He added that Meghan had stated she would let Harry lead the way and was supportive of him, but the King managed to “wait them out and play them like a fiddle.”
The journalist emphasized that Harry and Meghan “desperately need reinvention” as they feel outcast and rejected by America. “It has been six years, and I think Harry is trying to find a way to get back in the good graces, and this was an opportunity, even if it was just an hour of tea with the King and the Queen,” Aspen remarked.
Failed Hollywood Ventures and Financial Troubles
Kingston noted that every media appearance seems to be an attempt at reinvention, citing projects like jams, a podcast, and other ventures that “none of them seem to go anywhere, because neither of them have a great deal of talent.” He questioned where the couple could go next, describing their efforts as “failure after failure,” with the Invictus Games being a small exception.
Aspen countered that even the Invictus Games is facing serious financial difficulties, with a petition to remove Prince Harry from his role garnering over 2,600 signatures. “So he definitely needs a parachute, and banking on Hollywood may have seemed like a great idea six years ago, but it’s not working out so well now – especially when their A-list friends in Montecito don’t want to be seen with them. It’s rather toxic to be seen with them from a celebrity point of view,” Aspen said.
Royal Family's Strategic Handling
Aspen argued that the visit was a success from the King and Queen’s perspective, as they were gracious but strategic. “The King and Queen were very gracious to host them and see them, but they also were very canny about not allowing photographs – although I’m sure there were some taken and I’m sure they will be released when the King and Queen decide they will be released. It was all very strategic from everyone – a giant game of chess,” he concluded.
