South Australian police have arrested a 75-year-old on firearm offences as they launch a new search for evidence in the disappearance of four-year-old Gus Lamont. The charges stem from a previous search at Oak Park Station, Gus's home, but are not linked to his disappearance, police said.
Gus went missing on 27 September 2025 from the remote sheep station, prompting one of the largest searches in the state's history. Police initially believed he had wandered off, but after survival experts advised the hope of finding him alive had dwindled, the search became a recovery operation.
In February, police announced the case was now considered a major crime, alleging a suspect who lived with Gus had withdrawn cooperation. Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said inconsistencies in family accounts led to the suspect being identified. He stressed the suspect was not one of Gus's parents.
Taskforce Horizon detectives have returned to Oak Park Station for at least two days to continue searching for evidence. Police have seized a vehicle, motorbike and electronic devices. Gus's grandmothers released a statement saying they are devastated and have cooperated fully.
