Graham Norton Rules Out Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Role

Graham Norton has said he is too 'lazy' to take over as host of Strictly Come Dancing, following Sir Bruce Forsyth's decision to step down. The Irish broadcaster told The Sun that he would not 'jump at the chance' to succeed the 86-year-old, describing the role as a 'very tough gig'.

Norton, who presents his own BBC One chat show and hosts Eurovision coverage, suggested that the 'sensible way forward' would be to continue with the existing presenting duo of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. He praised them as a 'tried-and-tested duo' who work 'really well together'.

The 51-year-old also noted that taking on the Saturday night show would mean he would be on television both Saturdays and Sundays, which he said would be 'a bit weird'. Other names mooted as potential replacements include actor John Barrowman and presenter Nick Knowles.

Tess Daly's husband, Vernon Kay, tipped his wife and Winkleman to take over full-time, saying they have a 'great relationship'. However, Kay did not rule himself out, telling the Daily Mirror that it would be 'idiotic' to turn down the job if offered.

Sir Bruce announced his departure earlier this month, citing the rigours of the job and criticism over his ability to continue. He has presented the BBC One show with Daly since it began in 2004.
