Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice has revealed plans to publish a revealing memoir, titled Gio: My Story, nearly two years after his departure from the popular BBC series. The 35-year-old Italian dancer, once a fan favourite on the show, was removed from the 2024 lineup following allegations made by his former celebrity partner, actress Amanda Abbington.
Controversial Departure and BBC Investigation
Amanda Abbington, 52, accused Pernice of being "unnecessary, abusive, cruel and mean" during their Strictly rehearsals, claims he has consistently denied. The BBC conducted an investigation into the matter, which resulted in an apology to Abbington after some complaints were upheld.
The investigation found evidence supporting allegations of bullying and harassment against Pernice, though more serious claims of physical aggression were not substantiated. This outcome led to his exclusion from the show, marking a significant turning point in his career.

In a promotional video shared on Instagram, Pernice teased that his upcoming memoir will delve into aspects of his life and career that have not been publicly disclosed before. The book, scheduled for release on August 27, 2026, is currently available for pre-order, including some signed copies. Pernice described it as a comprehensive account of his journey from childhood in Sicily to his experiences on the BBC dance competition and beyond.
Amanda Abbington's Continued Claims
Abbington has maintained her position regarding Pernice's conduct, discussing the matter on the White Wine Question Time podcast in May 2025. She emphasised that her intention was not to initiate a witch hunt but to highlight what she perceived as unfair treatment.
"I just felt I wasn't being treated fairly in that room and I'd been treated rather badly," she explained, adding that she wanted to prevent similar experiences for others, including her daughter.
Pernice's Emotional Response and Future Plans
In his Instagram announcement, Pernice expressed excitement about sharing his personal story, noting the highs and challenges he has faced. "I'm incredibly grateful for the experiences I've had and the people who've supported me along the way," he wrote, indicating that the memoir will provide his perspective on the events that led to his Strictly exit.
