CBS News has secured a new contract with Gayle King, ending months of speculation about the future of the 'CBS Mornings' co-host. King, a longtime fixture at the network, will continue to anchor the morning show while also exploring new projects within the organisation.
In a statement, King dismissed rumours of her departure, saying: 'Rumours of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated. CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission. I’m excited about continuing at ‘CBS Mornings.’ As always, I’m open to new adventures here and ready to go.'
The deal is a boost for editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who took over the network news division in October. Weiss praised King, stating: 'There is only one Gayle King. We’re so proud that she’ll continue to call CBS home.' King's retention comes after the recent departure of '60 Minutes' correspondent Anderson Cooper and the move of co-host Tony Dokoupil to the evening show.
King's contract renewal follows a town hall meeting in January where she addressed staff concerns. She also had kind words for Weiss, noting the editor's willingness to engage with employees. The network's president, Tom Cibrowski, hinted at future changes for 'CBS Mornings', which currently ranks third behind its NBC and ABC counterparts.
