A new biography claims Freddie Mercury had a secret daughter, sparking outrage among fans. The book, Love, Freddie, alleges the Queen frontman fathered a child during an affair with the wife of a close friend in 1976.
The woman, referred to only as B, is now 48 and works as a medical professional in Europe. She reportedly shared 17 volumes of personal journals given to her by Mercury, which form the basis of the biography by Lesley-Ann Jones.
In a letter included in the book, B states: 'Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life.' She claims Mercury 'cherished me like a treasured possession.'
Mercury began writing the diaries on 20 June 1976, two days after Queen released 'You're My Best Friend', upon learning of the pregnancy. The journals chronicle his childhood in Zanzibar, boarding school in India, and his family's move to Middlesex after the 1964 revolution.
Jones said she was approached by B three years ago and is convinced of the story's authenticity, stating: 'No one could have faked all this.' Fans have reacted with anger and disbelief, questioning the timing and motives behind the claims.
