England and Manchester City midfielder Elliot Anderson is not the only one in his family making headlines. His brother, Wil, is currently in the United States alongside his fiancée, Love Island star Uma Jammeh, cheering on the Three Lions at the 2026 World Cup.
Elliot Anderson's Rise to Stardom
Elliot, City's record-breaking new signing, has been a revelation for the national team this summer. Ever since manager Thomas Tuchel handed him his senior debut last September, he has firmly established himself as the engine of England's midfield. Earlier this month, City confirmed they had struck a deal with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of Anderson. The fee is said to be a record-shattering £116 million, cementing his place as the most expensive British player in football history.
Wil Anderson's Love Island Romance and Boxing Career
Wil stepped into the spotlight himself during the 2024 season of the hit reality series Love Island, where he struck up an immediate romance with Jammeh, a model. Although Wil was dumped from the villa on day 37, leaving the door slightly open for rival Reuben Collins to swoop in, his connection with Jammeh proved unbreakable. The couple survived the reality TV drama, successfully navigated the outside world, and are now happily engaged. The pair got engaged last year, with Wil sharing the happy news on Instagram: "I liked it, so I put a ring on it," alongside a snap of Uma dressed in a green outfit.
Wil also pursues a boxing career under Misfits promotions. He suffered defeat on his debut against Jordan Banjo but bounced back in impressive fashion, claiming a knockout win over Jake Cornish in March.
Family Tragedy: Loss of Mother Helen
Stepping away from the squared circle, Wil and Jammeh have spent the summer Stateside cheering on Elliot and England to the World Cup semi-finals. However, it has been a heartbreaking period for the Anderson brothers, following the loss of their mother, Helen, in April after a brief illness. Taking to Instagram following their mum's passing, Wil wrote: "Words can't describe this feeling. You didn't deserve this. All I ever wanted was to make you proud. You were my biggest supporter and my strongest motivation."
"You gave everything for our family and we were just ready to return the favour. You fought the toughest fight of them all and not once did it show, bowing out with grace surrounded by your boys. You have shown me everything I know. Thank you for everything you have done for this family, none of us would have got this far without you. Keep watching me Mum I have more to show you. Everything is for you. You will live with me forever Mum, I love you."
Jammeh responded to the post, saying: "Rest in peace queen Helen, she is forever next to you holding your hand along the way. I love you so much."
Elliot Anderson's World Cup Performances
Elliot has been justifying his record price tag with his displays at the World Cup. Speaking following the quarter-final clash against Norway, which England edged 2-1, he admitted it took an enormous effort to come out on top. "It was so tough. So tough," said Anderson. "I was cramping up a few times [in extra time]. But the fighting spirit the lads have is amazing to be part of. The fans should be proud of the amount of fight and determination we showed."
