Eamonn Holmes has reportedly been forced to step down from his role as a director of the Manchester United Foundation after 19 years, marking another setback for the veteran broadcaster. The GB News presenter, a lifelong fan of the Red Devils, had served on the board of the club's charitable arm for nearly two decades. However, filings at Companies House now show him as 'resigned' from the position.
Mandatory Break Policy
It is understood that Holmes' removal is due to a 'standard practice' rule that limits board members to a maximum of nine consecutive years in the role. An insider told the Daily Mail: 'It is only a ceiling benchmark, and it is possible to remain on for longer. While Eamonn has served two consecutive stints, on this occasion the current chair of the board has used their discretion to implement a mandatory break which has resulted in Eamonn stepping aside.'
The source added: 'It is ultimately out of Eamonn's control. While it is believed Eamonn could one day return to the board, it is unclear how long the enforced break is.' Despite the change, Holmes still lists the position in his Instagram bio.
Recent Health Scare
Last month, the presenter suffered a health scare after it was revealed he had a stroke. GB News issued a statement saying: 'Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.'
Holmes later took to Instagram to share a get-well message from his granddaughters, which read 'get well soom'. He acknowledged the spelling mistake with humour, saying: 'Got this first thing this morning, from my two lovely granddaughters. So now doing my best to get well SOOM!!'
Family Support
His son Declan, 37, provided an update on behalf of the family, saying: 'I just wanted to share a quick message to say we hugely appreciate all the messages, it means a lot to us as a family. What happened came as a real shock, but dad is doing OK given the circumstances and we're taking it one step at a time. For now, we're focused on him and keeping things steady around him.'
He added: 'We'd really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it, and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family.'
