Food Network Star Duff Goldman Welcomes Second Child
Celebrity pastry chef and television personality Duff Goldman has become a father for the second time, welcoming a baby boy with his wife Johnna. The couple, who announced their pregnancy last autumn via a touching Instagram post, saw their family grow on March 31st with the arrival of their son.
A Joyful Announcement and Family Details
The 51-year-old Food Network star, famous for his role on Ace of Cakes and as a judge on Kids Baking Championship and Holiday Baking Championship, expressed overwhelming happiness to People magazine. 'I am literally the happiest I've ever been in my entire life at this moment,' Goldman declared, emphasizing his excitement about raising a son. 'It gives me a chance at just raising a real good little man,' he added, highlighting his paternal aspirations.
Goldman's wife Johnna, aged 32, gave birth to their son, who weighed seven pounds and five ounces at birth. The couple have chosen the distinctive name Samurai Jack for their newborn, immediately promoting their five-year-old daughter Josephine to the role of big sister.
Daughter Josephine's Heartwarming Preparation
In the lead-up to her brother's birth, Josephine demonstrated remarkable thoughtfulness. 'She was making piles of all her stuffies that she wanted to give him and drawing him little pictures to hang in his room,' Goldman recalled. The proud father described how she eagerly participated in preparing the nursery, wanting to place items in the crib and books on the shelf.
When Josephine first met baby Sam, she was 'a little tentative,' according to Goldman. He observed her cautious reaction upon encountering a real infant the size of her dolls, noting she didn't want to harm him. However, the moment she saw Sam hugging one of her plush toys, she 'planted a big old kiss right on his forehead,' showcasing her affectionate nature.
The Bob's Burgers Birth Story
The birth of Samurai Jack came with a unique and charming anecdote involving the animated series Bob's Burgers. Goldman explained that this show is a family favorite, often watched as a wind-down ritual before bed with Josephine. When Johnna went into labor, the hospital television happened to be tuned to Bob's Burgers, and no one thought to change it.
'Our son was born to an episode of Bob's Burgers. It was the Ricki Lake episode,' Goldman revealed, adding a playful twist to the birth story. He likened Josephine to the mischievous character Louise from the show, quipping, 'She runs the house, man, you know?'
Origin of the Name Samurai Jack
Contrary to what some might assume, the name Samurai Jack was not inspired by the animated series of the same name created by Genndy Tartakovsky. Instead, Goldman drew inspiration from a childhood friend named Sam, whom he described as 'the coolest dude,' 'the best surfer,' and someone who 'threw the biggest tricks.'
'I was like, 'I'm gonna name my son Sam, because Sam's a cool name,'' Goldman shared. He then proposed a creative alternative to his wife: 'What if instead of Samuel, or Sam, his actual name on his birth certificate was Samurai?' Thus, the unique moniker was born.
Goldman's Family Background and Past Reflections
Duff Goldman and Johnna met in 2016 through the dating app Tinder, bonding over a shared love of art during a marathon seven-hour first date. They fell in love immediately and embarked on a romantic trip to Hawaii. The couple married in January 2019 and welcomed their first child, Josephine, in January 2021.
In a previous interview with Mashed, Goldman reflected on the joys of first-time parenthood with Josephine. 'Just watching her figure stuff out and learn stuff,' he said, describing her fascination with plastic water bottles at seven months old. 'She was almost figuring out how to get the top off and unscrew it. It's just so fascinating,' he added, showcasing his delight in her developmental milestones.
As the founder of Charm City Cakes, known for innovative and whimsical custom creations, Goldman now balances his professional pastry expertise with the joys of a growing family, celebrating this new chapter with heartfelt enthusiasm.
