Deftones Confirm Instrumentals Finished for New Album, Chino Moreno Working on Vocals

Deftones have revealed that the instrumental tracks for their upcoming album are complete, with frontman Chino Moreno currently focusing on vocals. In a backstage interview with KROQ at Coachella, Moreno stated: “We have a whole record recorded all musically. And it’s pretty much my job right now to finish up the vocals.”

Moreno cautioned against setting a firm release date, saying: “We’re not really in a rush. We want it to be great. I think that’s most important. But it is coming, and, yeah – it’s really good.” He described the new material as having an “invigorated” sound, adding: “We’re really excited with what we’ve been working on. And everybody’s jazzed.”

The album will be the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Ohms’, which received a five-star review from NME. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter confirmed in September last year that the band were working on new material with producer Nick Raskulinecz, marking their third collaboration. Carpenter noted that recording began in February and hoped for a release by spring or summer, though no official date has been set.
