Dannii Minogue was honoured with the Ally Award at the 14th annual Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, held at Camden's Roundhouse on Wednesday. The singer and television personality accepted the accolade in a sweeping pink gown, expressing gratitude to the LGBTQ+ community.
“I just want you to know that in return, I have always, in your presence, felt safe, felt seen and been celebrated,” Minogue said during her acceptance speech.
Elizabeth Hurley received the Honorary Gay Award for her long-standing allyship. Arriving with her son Damian in a plunging purple gown, she dedicated the award to her gay friends, stating: “You have stuck by me through thick and thin... you’ve always had my back, and I promise you I’m always going to have yours.”
Russell Tovey was named Man of the Year, presented by writer Russell T Davies. In his speech, Tovey called for unity and warned against “catastrophically damaging and hostile government rhetoric”, urging the community to protect its rights. “It’s our time now,” he said. “Because if not us, then who?”
Other winners included Luke Evans, Campbell Addy, Gok Wan, Tom Allen, Dominic Skinner and Tiara Skye. The Williams family accepted the Inspiration Award on behalf of late drag icon The Vivienne. The evening featured performances from Scissor Sisters, Pam Ann and Calum Scott, and was hosted by Jamie Laing and Mika.
