Coronation Street Star Mollie Gallagher Quits After Six Years for Theatre Role

Coronation Street actress Mollie Gallagher is leaving the ITV soap after six years to star in a stage adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs. The 27-year-old, who plays Nina Lucas, will depart the cobbles later this summer.

Gallagher will take on the iconic role of Clarice Starling in the UK and Ireland tour of the play, alongside former EastEnders star John Partridge and Emmerdale’s Oliver Farnworth. Her final scenes are expected to air at the end of August.

A Coronation Street spokesperson said: “Mollie has created a unique and well loved character in Nina over the past six and a half years and everyone will be sorry to see her go. It is fantastic for Mollie that she has been given this incredible opportunity to play such an iconic role and we wish her all the best for the theatre tour.”

Gallagher’s co-stars have congratulated her on social media, with Elle Mulvaney writing: “So proud can’t wait to come and watch you shine,” and Sair Khan adding: “So excited for this!!!! Go Mollie!!!”

Since joining the show in 2019, Gallagher has been involved in major storylines, including the tragic death of her on-screen boyfriend Seb Franklin in a hate crime attack. She worked closely with the Sophie Lancaster Foundation to portray the storyline sensitively.

Reflecting on her time on the soap, Gallagher said she was thrilled to work alongside legends like David Neilson and Alison King, adding: “I grew up loving Corrie… I still think wow I’m actually on the set of Coronation Street!”
