Jeremy Clarkson has revealed drastic lifestyle changes following his prostate cancer diagnosis, including driving more slowly and adopting a vegetarian diet. The 66-year-old former Top Gear star, who is now in remission, shared that he wants to watch his grandchildren grow up and has slowed down his life considerably.
New Appreciation for Life
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Clarkson said: "I really like seeing my grandchildren. I want to watch them grow up. I drive much more slowly. I’m a bit of a dawdler. I go for walks a lot. I have vegetarian food." This marks a significant shift for Clarkson, who previously branded alternative diets as "utter madness."
Clarkson's cancer was discovered early and described as "aggressive." He underwent surgery to remove part of his prostate, and a follow-up PSA test two months ago showed no indication of cancer. The news was shared in the latest season of his Prime Video series Clarkson's Farm.
Health Scare from Self-Medication
Clarkson also revealed a "horrific" health scare that occurred after he restarted blood-thinning medication for his heart problems without consulting a doctor. He had been on drugs for heart issues and stopped them during cancer treatment. Two or three weeks after his cancer operation, he decided to restart the blood thinners on his own. "Big mistake, huge. It [resulted in] a very big emergency in the middle of the night," he said. He declined to detail the treatment required, calling it "horrible."
In 2024, Clarkson underwent a heart procedure and had a stent fitted after experiencing a "sudden deterioration" in his health. At the time, he said he struggled with swimming and could not descend stairs without assistance. He was taken to hospital by ambulance after feeling clammy and experiencing chest tightness.
Cancer Diagnosis Revealed on Clarkson's Farm
Clarkson revealed his diagnosis in an episode of Clarkson's Farm, telling farm manager Kaleb Cooper and land agent Charlie Ireland: "I've got cancer." He said he expected to be "fine" but would be out of action "for a while." The final episode of the series showed him undergoing surgery. Clarkson has since been inundated with well-wishes from fans.
