Celebrity Race Across the World Halted Due to Guatemala Protests

The BBC programme 'Celebrity Race Across the World' was temporarily halted for safety reasons amid protests in Guatemala. The current series sees celebrity contestants travelling 5,900km across Central America, from Isla Mujeres in Mexico to the Guajira Peninsula in South America.

In Thursday's episode (November 13), Roman Kemp and his sister Harleymoon, along with Anita Rani and her father Bal, found their journeys disrupted by civil unrest. The show's narrator explained that local protests had escalated into a national uprising, with roads blocked across the country.

Roman and Harleymoon were en route to the next checkpoint when they received a message stating: 'A national strike has been announced in Guatemala and many major roads have been blocked. For safety reasons, your race will be paused.' Anita and Bal, who had spent the night in the Guatemalan highlands, were informed that roads would not be passable, leaving them trapped.

Anita expressed concern about the delay, questioning whether the race might be over for them. However, other contestants—Dylan Llewellyn and his mother Jackie, and couple Molly Rainford and Tyler West—managed to avoid the chaos by taking a different route.

Fortunately, the situation improved, and competitors were permitted to continue the race once it was safe to proceed.
