CBeebies Star Andy Day: 'I'm Earning Less Than a Decade Ago'

Andy Day, the longest-serving presenter on CBeebies, has revealed that his earnings have declined compared to a decade ago. The 40-year-old star, known for shows such as Andy's Dinosaur Adventures and Andy's Aquatic Adventures, discussed his financial situation in a recent interview.

Day, who has been with the BBC children's channel for 14 years, said that despite his continued popularity, his income has not kept pace with inflation. 'I'm earning less than I was ten years ago,' he admitted, though he did not provide specific figures. The presenter attributed this to changes in the television industry and budget constraints.

The star also spoke about the impact of fatherhood on his work. Day and his partner, producer Kat, have a two-year-old daughter named Ruby. He explained that having a child has influenced his approach to presenting. 'Whenever I'm presenting, I always imagine that I'm speaking to one child, and it's usually a six-year-old,' he said.

Day's latest series, Andy's Dino Toybox, was produced during the pandemic from his own home, with filming taking place after his daughter's bedtime. The show, which features Day playing with dinosaur toys, was created as a low-cost response to Covid-19 restrictions.

Despite the financial challenges, Day remains enthusiastic about his role. 'I like to try to infiltrate the brains of the nation,' he joked, referring to his frequent use of his own name in theme tunes. 'It's actually a hypnosis.'
