Ted the dog, the beloved canine star of BBC Two's Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, has died. The Patterdale Terrier mix, who won the hearts of viewers and co-hosts Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse, will make one final appearance in the upcoming ninth series.
Ted's Journey from Rescue to Stardom
Ted was rescued from a dogs' home in Surrey in spring 2013 when he was around six months old. He went to live with Lisa Clark, the executive producer of Gone Fishing. He made his first appearance on the show in series three, episode three, in 2020, quickly becoming a fan favourite. During the Christmas special in Cornwall in 2025, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award, often winning end-of-series awards to Paul Whitehouse's comedic dismay.
Tributes from the Cast
Lisa Clark, Ted's owner and executive producer, said: "Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen. We'll never forget him. He is survived at home by Bo the Briard."
Bob Mortimer said: "So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much.. and away boss."
Paul Whitehouse added: "Bye bye Ted old friend. He wasn't a dog, he was a species all of his own. He's gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate."
Final Appearance and Literary Legacy
Fans will be pleased to hear Ted will appear in one more episode of the forthcoming series nine, marking his final television appearance. Despite being a dog, Ted authored two best-selling books, A Pawtobiography and Pup Fiction, with a third due for release later this year.
