BBC and ITV Snub Justin Bieber's World Cup Halftime Show
BBC and ITV Won't Show Justin Bieber's World Cup Halftime Show

Justin Bieber has been confirmed as one of the co-headliners for the inaugural FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show on Sunday, July 19, but the BBC and ITV will not be showing the performance. The broadcasters are instead planning to concentrate on dissecting the first-half action rather than switching to the entertainment.

Star-Studded Lineup and Broadcast Decisions

Bieber will be amongst the most prominent names at the centre of the tournament's showpiece finale, performing alongside Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, and Coldplay, who have all signed up for the half-time extravaganza. The star-studded performance, which has been scheduled for 11 minutes during the World Cup final interval, is set to unfold at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Yet viewers following the match on the BBC and ITV will almost certainly miss out.

According to The Times, the BBC intend to maintain their traditional broadcasting structure of pre-match discussion, the first half, first-half assessment, and then the second half, rather than switching over to the entertainment. ITV is also expected to adopt a comparable approach.

Fundraising and Education Initiative

All funds generated from the halftime show will go towards the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which seeks to raise £74.5million ($100 million) to expand access to quality education and football for youngsters worldwide. The fund has already accumulated more than £37.4m ($50million) and continues to expand, with $1 from every ticket sold for FIFA World Cup 2026 fixtures being contributed throughout the competition.

Bieber's Statement and Fan Reactions

Having been personally chosen for the privilege, Bieber said in a statement: "The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can. I'm grateful to be part of this Halftime Show, and even more grateful knowing it's already helping expand access to education for children around the world."

Following the announcement on Instagram, supporters rushed to the comments section expressing their enthusiasm for his upcoming performance. One fan posted: "Yes! Do your thing bro!" Another admirer commented: "YESSSSSSS MY FAV CAN'T WAIT," while a third declared, "THANK YOU, MY LORD JESUS CHRIST. NOW ANNOUNCE THE TOUR."
