Ashley Cain was reportedly removed from a BBC documentary after allegedly arriving drunk while filming in the United States, according to a new report. The 35-year-old former Ex on the Beach star is said to have been quietly dropped from Sin City: The Real Las Vegas after production team members raised concerns during filming in Nevada last June.
The allegations emerge as Cain faces renewed scrutiny over historical misogynistic social media posts, which led the BBC to shelve the second series of his programme Into the Danger Zone. According to The Guardian, Cain had traveled to Las Vegas to film Sin City, but producers became worried about his behavior on set. He was subsequently replaced by another presenter.
Cain's former partner, Safiyya Vorajee, has previously spoken about ending their relationship due to his struggles with alcohol following the death of their daughter, Azaylia. The Standard has contacted representatives for Ashley Cain and the BBC for comment.
Earlier this week, the BBC stated it was taking accusations that Cain used explicit sexual and misogynistic language to describe women online in historical social media posts “very seriously.” The former Coventry City footballer fronted the BBC Three documentary series Ashley Cain: Into The Danger Zone, where he explores issues affecting young men born into a life of criminality. A second series of the show has been filmed but will not be aired following allegations that the TV personality frequently used abusive terms and sexualized language, including “s**gs,” “s**ts,” and “psychos,” on social media.
Responding to the controversy surrounding Cain's historic posts, the BBC said it had no plans to work with him again and admitted its vetting procedures had “clearly failed.” A spokesperson said: “The posts by Ashley Cain, albeit from many years ago, are completely unacceptable. The BBC has clear requirements around vetting and social media checks, which are undertaken by the production company. In this instance, the process clearly failed and we are investigating why. We are continuing to strengthen our processes to ensure everyone working for, and on behalf of, the BBC meets our values and standards. We have no plans to broadcast the new series of Into the Danger Zone, and no future projects with Ashley Cain.”
In tweets seen by The Guardian, Cain also reportedly made jokes about hitting women. Cain’s X account appears to have been removed from the platform.
