An American social media user has confessed she does not know whether to 'thank or curse Scotland' after developing an expensive obsession with the nation's iconic soft drink, Irn Bru. The account @pressleytravels shared her dilemma on Instagram, where she is open about her appreciation for Scotland, but now faces a costly habit living in the United States.
From Love for Scotland to Irn Bru Addiction
In a video posted on July 15, Pressley explained: 'So if you're new here, I have a wee bit of an obsession with Scotland, which has inadvertently led to a wee bit of an obsession with Irn Bru. And I don't know whether to thank Scotland or curse Scotland for it.' She added that in the US, Irn Bru is not cheap: 'I think I'm going to go bankrupt for Irn Bru. And now, I feel like I'm on a one-woman mission to normalise Irn Bru in the US.'
Pressley, who claims she 'bleeds orange' in the comments, described her all-or-nothing personality: 'One thing about me is I can never just seem to feel neutral about things. If I like it, I love it, and then it becomes my entire personality.'
Dream of Irn Bru in Texas Roadhouse
She shared her dream scenario: 'I want to go to my beloved Texas Roadhouse and while I'm enjoying my delicious steak and rolls, I want to sip on an Irn Bru. That is my dream. I want to go to any store and buy an Irn Bru as easily as I can buy a Dr. Pepper, and I do love Dr. Pepper. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Texas girl through and through but Irn Bru is good man.'
Pressley concluded: 'So US, can we please get on board with Irn Bru, please. Don't be a can't, be a can.'
Social Media Support and Suggestions
Viewers flooded the comments with support. One wrote: 'Mmm Texas Roadhouse and Irn Bru….that’s a dream I can support lol.' Another added: 'We're proud of you and support this mission.' A Scot noted: 'Love it that you’ve become obsessed with the orange stuff that most Scottish people have running through their veins.'
A fourth person suggested: 'World Market if you have one near you. Still pricey but you aren’t paying for shipping.' One viewer offered a trade: 'It’s the same with American orange Fanta… I love it! So how about I send you Irn Bru and you can send me the American orange Fanta! Deal?' Another American backed the cause: 'Oh please!!! Irn bru on tap in the States would make me so happy!!! Stop n shop Bru is pricey!'
Some Scots recommended trying the 1901 edition or making a float with vanilla ice cream to elevate the experience.
