Amanda Holden was in a celebratory mood on Friday morning after successfully completing the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge live on her Heart Breakfast radio show. The presenter, 51, popped champagne at the top of the UK's highest mountain Ben Nevis after having summited three peaks in total within 24 hours in a bid to raise funds for Global’s Make Some Noise.
Speaking after the difficult feat, which saw her climb the highest mountains of Wales, England and Scotland, an exhausted Amanda revealed that it was 'the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life!' The star told how she and her team made it 'by the skin of their teeth' having faced a number of elements during the climbs including 60mph winds, rain and snow, while also facing severe weather warnings.
Amanda scaled the three peaks on 'no sleep', two of which were in the pitch black. The challenge finally came to an end at 8:15am, 24 hours after she first set off, with Amanda toasting the triumph with a glass of fizz at 4,411 feet.
Detailing her experience to co-host Jamie Theakston, she said: 'We made it by the skin of our teeth, it was horrific. You know, I never understand when I see people give up at the end, but for the first time in my life I thought, I’m not going to do it, I’m not going to make it, I’m going to give up, but we kept going. It was just incredible! We did it!'
Amanda took on the iconic Three Peaks Challenge which saw her scale Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis. The star climbed 10,476 feet in just 24 hours alongside a team of 'Mandy's Mountaineers', made up of incredible people from many of the charities that Global's Make Some Noise supports. The team raised money to support small charities that work hard in our communities to help those who need it most.
