Alison Hammond Performs Complete U-Turn on Strictly Come Dancing Hosting Claims
Popular television presenter Alison Hammond has dramatically reversed her position regarding the hosting role on BBC's flagship dance competition Strictly Come Dancing. The This Morning host, who also fronts The Great British Bake Off and For the Love of Dogs, had previously stated she was too busy to consider replacing Tess Daly or Claudia Winkleman.
From 'Too Busy' to 'Never Would Turn It Down'
In a surprising shift, Hammond has now clarified her stance, telling Metro newspaper that she would never reject such an opportunity. "Do you think I would turn down Strictly if Strictly came along?" she questioned rhetorically. "Who would turn down Strictly? They'd be absolutely crazy."
This represents a complete reversal from her comments to Radio Times earlier this month, where she declared: "I'm so busy, babes, that I'm not sure it's going to happen. It's unrealistic. I'm so happy they considered me, but I can't do it because everything clashes."
Strategic Comments to Improve Her Chances
The 51-year-old presenter explained her previous remarks were actually a strategic move to improve her chances of securing the coveted position. "I was trying to back them off because ultimately everyone keeps putting my name in the mix and they're ruining my chances of even getting on to Strictly," Hammond revealed.
She elaborated further: "You all need to stop talking about it because I need to get in. I can do Strictly. I can do it all. All these people saying: 'I'm too busy, and I can't do it.' I could do Strictly. Let's put that on the record."
Competition for the Coveted Hosting Role
Hammond is not alone in being considered for the position. Several other high-profile names have been mentioned as potential replacements for the departing Daly and Winkleman:
- Bradley Walsh, the versatile presenter and actor
- Zoe Ball, the experienced radio and television host
- Alex Jones, the The One Show presenter
- Janette Manrara, current host of Strictly spin-off It Takes Two
When asked about the speculation in January, Zoe Ball acknowledged the challenge, telling The Times: "I think everyone's name is being thrown into the mix. Obviously, there's part of me that would love to do it. But I will still be watching, whoever hosts it."
Janette Manrara expressed similar enthusiasm when questioned by Woman and Home magazine: "To be honest, I keep giving the same answer: who doesn't want that job? If you love fun, family entertainment that makes people's hearts smile, it's the dream job."
Strictly Come Dancing's Upcoming Return
The beloved dance competition series is scheduled to return to BBC One later this year, though the exact premiere date has not yet been announced. The search for new hosts continues as the production team prepares for another season of glittering costumes, dramatic dance routines, and the famous Strictly sparkle that has captivated British audiences for years.
Hammond's public reversal has certainly added intrigue to the ongoing speculation about who will ultimately fill the hosting roles. Her candid admission about strategically downplaying her interest demonstrates the competitive nature of television presenting at the highest level, where perception and timing can be as important as talent and experience.
