Prince William, the Prince of Wales, has yet to attend a single match of the 2026 World Cup in person, despite being a known football enthusiast. With England advancing to the semi-finals, many expected the royal to appear in the stands. However, his absence has persisted, and a royal expert has now provided the likely reason.
Children's Schooling and Logistical Challenges
One factor is that the World Cup games have taken place while Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were still in school until earlier this month. A long-haul flight to the United States, where the tournament is being held, would be required. However, royal author Richard Fitzwilliams told Celebrity Intelligence that the primary reason is more complex.
The Trump Factor
Fitzwilliams explained that any visit to the US by Prince William would almost certainly involve a meeting with President Donald Trump. He stated: "If Prince William did visit the US, it would almost certainly involve meeting President Trump. Royalty has to be used sparingly. Handling this with care gives it a special cachet."
William's Public Statements
On the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce earlier this month, Travis suggested William should fly to the US if England reached the final. William agreed, saying: "Definitely, if we're in the finals." Despite not attending games, William has sent messages of support via social media, telling the team he has never been "in doubt" about their wins.
Upcoming Matches and Potential Attendance
England's semi-final is scheduled for tomorrow, and if they win, the final will be on Sunday. The Prince of Wales has indicated he would want to attend the final, but it remains uncertain whether he will make the trip given the diplomatic implications.
